Welcome to Brave Brown Wonder, my personal exploration of what it means to be young, black, courageous and in the world.
This space is a culmination of my long-held desire to see brown badassery affirmed and celebrated through writing and storytelling.
It’s also the place where I will come to make sense of my longing to find and define doing ‘work with meaning’, especially for this restless, millenial, uncompromising, black blackity black heart of mine.
I am reminded of my favourite song by Nina Simone, To Be Young, Gifted and Black.
Nina sings:
“…there’s a great truth you should know
When you’re young, gifted and black
Your soul’s intact”
Here’s to living that “lovely, precious dream” and, here’s to living it whole.
